How this calculation works
Monthly pay is annual salary divided by 12. It is the simplest conversion but rarely matches an actual paycheck amount, because most US employers pay on biweekly or semimonthly cycles.
When budgeting, match your plan to your actual pay frequency. If you are paid biweekly, two months each year will contain three paychecks — a natural opportunity to accelerate savings or debt payoff.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is monthly pay derived from an annual salary?
Divide annual salary by 12. Semimonthly is annual ÷ 24, biweekly is annual ÷ 26, and weekly is annual ÷ 52. These are gross figures before taxes and deductions.
Why is my monthly take-home lower than this estimate?
This tool computes gross pay. Federal/state income tax, FICA (Social Security and Medicare), benefits, and retirement contributions reduce your net take-home pay.
